Roxy is our champion sleeper. Her ability to sleep anywhere at any time under any circumstances is the envy of our whole family.
She can be right at home sleeping on our bed…
Or on someone.
She can sleep sitting up….
Or curl into a little ball.
She falls asleep watching me from the living room….
And doesn’t wake up when I throw a blanket on her.
Who wouldn’t like to sleep that good?
I can’t compare to the champ. But I do have a little routine I go through while already in bed that helps me drift off into a restful sleep.
First, I mentally run through my entire day and say “thank you” for each thing I’m grateful for. Doesn’t matter if it’s as small as a peaceful walk with the dogs or something major, like avoiding a car accident. Everything counts.
Then I do a breathing meditation. Inhale for one count, exhale for one count. Inhale for two count, exhale for two count. Then three and so on, up to 20. Then I go back down until I reach one—if I stay awake long enough.
If you can only inhale for as long as a seven count, do seven. Next time, try eight. Work your way up. The main goal is to slow your breathing down—long, deep, drawn out breaths.
I can’t guarantee you’ll sleep like a Roxy. But I know I always wake up feeling much, much better after doing these at night.
Hope you do, too!
